Why do I have to take ballet class in order to take jazz class?
To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet. Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms.
Why do I have to pay for recital tickets?
The Recital is very costly to put on. We use professional lighting, sound, and floors, plus the cost of theater rental, program printing, stage crew, staff and insurance.
Why is it important to take two ballet classes a week in Ballet III, IV, V and Advanced Ballet?
In order to improve strength, flexibility and technique two hours a week is the minimum amount of ballet recommended per week. This also prepares students for pointe.
Why isn't my child advancing to the next level?
Every child develops at their own rate. Good technique cannot be rushed.
When do students go up on pointe?
Students may go on pointe when they have acquired the necessary strength, technique and proper placement. A child's bones must be fully developed, which usually happens around age 12. Students may go on pointe only with the teachers consent.
Does a new student need to wait until the beginning of a new session to start classes?
No, new students may start anytime, and are encouraged to do so. Sessions refer only to tuition payments.
Why must ballet students have their hair in a neat bun?
The bun is a traditional way to wear hair for ballet. Neat hair and a tidy bun enables students to spot, to turn and focus without distraction
Why do students have to wear a uniform?
A uniform allows the teacher to determine student's correct placement and alignment. Looking like a dancer helps you to feel like a dancer.
What is Modern/Contemporary dance?
A form of dance as developed by Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman and others. It expresses complex emotions and abstract ideas. Modern dance started as a break away from ballet in the 1900's.
